The main mission of Naresuan University
can be classified as follows:
1. Promotion of Well-Qualified Students
To assist Thailand to achieve economic prosperity, Naresuan
University focuses on the development of human resources
and enables students to be well-trained and well-qualified
for all types of work. Also, NU has established academic
cooperation, under memoranda of understanding, with prestigious
overseas institutions to build up academic networking
and university partnerships. Owing to the limited number
of teaching staff, it is greatly dependent on e-learning
systems, which requires less budget but still provides
an effective outcome. Individually, students have to be
well-equipped with good morals also.
2. Promotion of Research
Naresuan University focuses on research and development,
especially applied research for generating economic and
social progress: for example technological research and
development for modern industry that costs so much more
for manpower than for labour or for raw materials. Other
examples include research into better ways of using natural
resources economically, environmental conservation, and
industrial and public health research.
At the same time, Naresuan University emphasizes fundamental
research together with applied research in order to meet
the basis of good quality of research, effective ways
of teaching and utilization of knowledge in Thailand for
the near future. In this case, the university has to support
research leaders, in the form of partnership, and expand
academic networking with renowned domestic and overseas
universities for contribution of internationalization.
Moreover, the university should achieve reliability from
the government on the problem solutions from the university
researches.
3. Promotion of Academic Service
Naresuan University aims to serve society the more various
academic services. Some format of academic services were
focused on institution's funding sources, especially from
target group with its high demand such as business and
inductrial section. Furthermore, the investment and co-operation
with private sector must be considered on each case particular
in establishment of quality testing unit to provide several
services. Partnership operating may be implemented as
well as networking system which may be available to strengthen
the university's strong-point and acceptance.
4. Promotion of Art and Culture
Naresuan University well realizes that the mission of
promoting of art and culture will be expanded in the future
owing to the tendency of cultural blend and the country's
increased participation in the global economic community.
Thus, the promotion of art and culture, which serves as
a solid base for balanced development of Thai society,
is required. However, the promotion of art and culture
should not only be confined to the conservation of artistic
heritage and Thai culture but should also cove a thorough
cultural differences and the condition in which Thai people
can survive in the global community with identity and
dignity. Culture and values will also be encouraged in
individuals, organizations, and society.
Since Associate Professor Dr. Monthon Sanguansermsri
was appointed President of Naresuan University by King
Bhumibol on January 20, 2002 , the University has set
its vision and strategic objectives for the next ten
years {2002-2012} for our future pride.
1. Naresuan University is a university
under the jurisdiction of the government and the university
council.
2. The number of undergraduate, masters
and doctoral students including the Payao campus will
be at least 40,000 students.
3. There will be 1,200 lecturers, 700
of whom will have attained doctoral degrees with 750
assistant professors, 350 associate professors and 15
professors.
4. There will be international programs. There will
be international exchange students.
5. E-Learning will be fostered. Every
lecturer will have his own computer.
6. The internet system will be accelerated.
7. The university will promote research
to develop the community. The university along with
government organizations and private organizations will
conduct more research. It will promote the publication
of 200 research reports in the country and 80 research
reports worldwide.
8. The university will be promoted
as a new tour site in Phitsanulok.
9. The Health-Science Research Institute
will be the center of learning about heartdiseases and
other diseases, focusing on research to help patients.
10. New buildings will be built for
the faculty of engineering as well as a new office of
the president, an international college, and a language
center. The system of sewage disposal will be further
developed. The electrical wires will be set underground
at the Kjng Naresuan the Great Monument. The traffic
system around the campus will be improved.
11 New dormitories and a building for
a science and technology center will be built at the
information campus.
12. The library will use an electronic
system so that it is easy to search for information.
13. The Research
Center and the Training Center of Solar Energy will
be the center or information transfer concerning different
forms of energy such as solar energy, methane, biogas,
and biodiesel.
