Centre for Geo-Informatics and Space Technology
The Regional Center of Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Lower Northern Region (CGIST) was established on 30th October 2001, as a joint venture between Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) and Naresuan University (NU). For the efficient management of CGIST, in 1990 CGIST was set up under section 14(2) Naresuan University Act (issue 2) 1998, by the meeting of the University affairs council in 9th February 2002; they set out the rules of administration of GISTDA. That it would be an organization under the care and control of Naresuan University. It’s functions independent of government control and is self sufficient in funding. It is under controlling of the President office of Naresuan University.

The CGIST will act as the center of Geo-Informatics and Space Technology for 9 provinces which located on the lower region: Phitsanulok, Phichit, Sukhothai, Kampaengphet, Phetchaboon, Uttaradit, Tak, Nakhonsawan, Uthaithani, and Phayao. They provide academic decentralization by settling up Academic Service Centers for government sectors in those 9 provinces through provided the workshop and training course, research, seminar, international workshop. In the near future, CGIST will cooperate with the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment to create Geo-Informatics and Space Technology curriculum for master and doctoral degree students.

CGIST provides intensive education, research, administration, specialization knowledge, training, seminars, improved educational curricula, information service, co-ordinate cooperative network database system of Geo-Informatics, and services covering other facets relating to GISTDA for government and private agencies.


Mission:
• To have the power and duty to set policy, goals, strategy, and work plans for the CGIST to integrate with University policy and GISTDA in control, care, follow up, and evaluation of project and various activities including issuing rules, setting up systems, announcements, and various concerning the management of the work of the regional center.
• To come to an agreement of the yearly budget of the regional center in order to present it to the university council for their consideration and approval.
• To appoint an accountant and inspect the running of the work conducted of CGIST, and to give consultation, give opinions concerning activities of the CGIST.
