Centre for Gender Studies
Photo - caption below The Centre for Gender Studies was established in compliance with the philosophy and mission of Naresuan University which is to strive for academic excellence in order to serve the development of society and our nation. The Centre for Gender Studies has committed a rendering support unit for educational and action-oriented research services to be provided to communities. Initiatives are being taken to ensure that gender issues have been integrated into the mainstream of policy formulation and development of programmes and projects. The responsible areas for services implementation of the Centre correspond to the principle mission of Naresuan University in enhancing the educational opportunities to the entire population of 9 provinces based in the lower northern part of Thailand.

The Centre for Gender Studies has focused its work on achieving equal rights for men and women. The Centre will seek cooperation in working with both governmental and nongovernmental organizations within Naresuan University's purview.

Mission/Objectives
1. To comply with the National Economic and Social Development Plan for better improvement of the quality of life for the population.
2. To study and present gender analysis data of the lower northern areas and Phayao province with the information technology system. Gender analysis can be beneficial to policy analysis and for sensitivity to gender issues in general.
3. To render services which enhance the quality of life for the population in education, local administration, family strength, women in development, children and youth development, welfare for the elderly, prevention of child prostitution, unemployment, eradication of poor health and nutrition, and drug addiction.
4. To develop a dynamic network of information among agencies concerned, both within the country and internationally in coordinating the institutional capacity for achieving full equality between men and women in Thai society and the World communities.


Implementation Plan
The Centre will provide services in the form of workshops, consultation, technical meetings, counselling for needy clients, seminars, action-oriented research as well as providing information on the University's home page, newsletter, radio and television.

The prime area of concern will be emphasized to provide services to the vulnerable target groups at risk; especially women, children, youth and the elderly.
